On Tuesday we took Hank for his first doctor's visit. On the way up in the car he got to see a lot of Bristol and seemed to sort of enjoy his car seat.
When we got to the doctor, Hank took an immediate liking to the nurse, who has three boys of her own. Things soon took a dramatic turn.
First thing we did was get him on the table and get him measured. He did not mind this too much, and seemed to enjoy the attention he was getting.
He measured out at 22 inches. Now, I have been told that these measurements can be a bit inexact, but I want to think that he grew a half inch in four days. I did some quick math in my head, always a chancy thing, but that means by the end of the year he should be about three or four feet tall.
Alison and I have been a bit concerned about his weight, so we were a bit nervous when he was placed in the scale. The tension was broken a bit when we saw him pee all over the place, including the nurse.
WOW. Nine pounds, eleven and a half ounces. When we left the hospital he was down just over a pound from his birthweight, so we were really relieved to see that he put weight back on.
His vital signs all looked good, although by this point he was getting a bit upset about being naked.
After the nurse left we were able to bundle Hank up and we waited a few minutes for the doctor to come and take a look at him.
The doctor came in and Hank was immediately sizing him up. The two of them hit it off right away.
While the doctor was entering some information and looking at some paperwork the hospital gave us, Alison attended to Hank. She is already a great mother, looking at the two of them together always seems to make the room dusty.
We got to talk to the doctor for a few minutes, and Alison seemed to relax, as he told us what a good job we were already doing.
The doctor was ready to begin his exam, and that means it time to get Hank bare again.
Things started pretty well.
After looking him over, the doctor told us he was in the 90th percentile for weight, 95th percentile for length, and the 97th percentile for head size. There were no major problems, and soon we were in the car on the way home. Everything went well, and we don't have to back for another couple of weeks.
